Jamaica Stages Investment Forum In UK PDF Print E-mail

The first Jamaica-United Kingdom Investment Forum, to will highlight investment opportunities in Jamaica, will be held in Westminster, London on February 5.

The event is being organised by Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI), through its European Regional Office, in association with the London-based Developing Markets Associates (DMA).

The forum, which will showcase the island’s growing capacity for global business, will also seek to forge partnerships and generate investments in areas such as agriculture, manufacturing, information communication technology, and finance.

A high profile ministerial delegation comprised of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr. Ken Baugh; Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Karl Samuda; and Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Senator Don Wehby, will speak at the event.

Regional Manager for JTI’s European Office, Laurence Jones, told JIS News, that the island’s pro business environment offered a wide array of opportunities in the major sectors.

“When coupled with ongoing public finance reforms, stable gross domestic product (GDP) growth, and the growing sophistication of the financial services sector, Jamaica offers a solid and diverse investment infrastructure to the discerning investor,” Mr. Jones said.    The investment forum, he said, “will showcase the strong advantages that Jamaica offers to the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) community, preferential trade regimes, the best FDI investment infrastructure in the Caribbean region and might I add, some of the best investment facilitators in the business from JTI and the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce."

For the past three years, Jamaica has been consistently cited by Foreign Direct Investment Magazines as the Caribbean nation with the best development and investment strategy, offering the most developed infrastructure for FDIs.    DMA works with donor agencies, Governments and the wider business community in providing advice and management in its three areas of expertise - remittances, investment programmes and international development events.
